Wuphons Reach - Oyster BayOyster Bay sits at the very end of the western-bay area, and therefore is currently the center-of-gravity for the western-bay area. Neighbors are Blye to the north-northwest, Scelle to the north-northeast, Westview to the west-northwest, Ossia to the south-southwest, Ollisary to the west-southwest, Shinobu to the south-southeast, Greenleaf to the east-southeast, and Faven to the east-northeast.Year 2000 (a.k.a. year zero)When starting a new city tile, I always like to lay out my rail lines, then my major roads, then power and water. I do rail lines first because they are the most limited in terms of flexibility (they don't like to climb steep hills, or intersections on hillsides). Rail is also the skeleton of almost all of my cities, and the shape of the rail network often determines what goes where later. The road network follows next and forms itself around the rail network. Most of the time I just parallel the rail network, with roads being anywhere from 3-6 tiles away from the rail line (giving me a gap of 2-5 tiles). Ideally I'd have a pattern of rail - 3to4open - road - 6to8open - road - 3to4open - rail, but it doesn't always work out that way.2100 - Hitting 80k PopulationOyster Bay kinda took off on me, I looked down and saw that I was already sitting at 80k population (pretty good for a 2x2km city). Plus, I already had (4) residential skyscrapers (those are "Ryans" that hold 900-1200 people each).2109 - Got my first City ZooNow my sims can go see the monkey house!2111 - Bank of China TowerIn an attempt to boost my city, I added the China Tower in 2111. One of the more expensive landmark buildings, costing $180k to build and $300/mo to maintain, but it has a huge radius (48 blocks) and adds +100 to the commercial desireability of the surrounding blocks. That's a coverage area of 7238 sq tiles and +100 is the largest bonus value that I know of. The efficiency value is then 2413 (take the area covered times the bonus value, then divide the result by the monthly cost). Bottom line, if you want to boost your commercial business, this is a good landmark building to add. |
