Can You Ever Really Go Back

Friends of mine asked if I'd be willing to get back together with my last girlfriend if she "came to her senses" (their words, not mine since it was a mutual decision to go our seperate ways) and wanted to get back together. It took me no time at all to make the decision. "No", I said, "because I haven't been happy with the relationship for over a year". (Sad but true.) Back when we started dating, everything was pretty good, because new relationships have enthusiasm and both partners make a valant attempt to communicate using all 3 modes; but after some time goes by, both partners will tend to revert to relying only on their primary communication method. Since ours were completely opposite (we could have met in the middle by using visual methods) this meant that neither of us felt fulfilled by the relationship (we felt secure because we trusted the others fidelity, but there was no deep soul-merging connection). "Lack of emotional intimacy" was one of the phrases that we both used when we broke up. In a lot of ways, I'll miss her three cats and the nieces and nephew more.
