Goon Show: What the Heck Are They Singing?
So anyway, I'm listening to "The Moriarty Murder Mystery" episode (8th series, 17th episode, Jan 20 1958), when Moriarty and Grytpype-Thynne break into a silly singing song around 5 minutes into the sketch (aparently for money since you hear a copper get dropped into their tin mug by a passer-by). Finally, after listening to the song bit a few times (they only sing a few lines before the copper drops and they squable over who gets to hold it) I did a bit of searching on the web and here's what you hear them sing:
Who's kissable, who's lovable? Miss Annabelle Lee Who's wonderful, who's marvelous? Miss Annabelle Lee (my Annabelle Lee) (copper drops into cup)
This is actually a mangled version of "Miss Annabelle Lee (Who's Wonderful? Who's Marvelous?)" which was written back in circa 1942-1946 by Richman, Sidney Clare, Lew Pollack on the album "Unheard, Vols. 1 & 2: 1942-1946" (lyrics, 2nd version) in that they sing lines 3 and 4 before singing lines 1 and 2.
Well, it's all in the mind you know...

Picking up more bits and pieces
(sigh) still trying to get back on top of day-to-day life... today's fun, sitting on hold trying to get my 2nd cell phone disconnected (my ex-girlfriend used the phone for a year after we broke up since I had extended the contract by a year shortly before we broke up). Ah well, was only like $27/mo for a really basic service, but she said she didn't need the phone anymore now so it's time to get that monies freed up in the monthly outlays.

Shipwrecked in an oasis
Well, gonna try taking my EffexorXR (150mg) in the morning instead of just after lunch... past two weeks have been awful - listless, zero energy - during the day, with a peak of energy around early-late evening (4-8 hrs after my dosage). So I either need to take it first thing when I get up, or switch it to when I go to bed (gonna try taking it first thing in the mornings and see how I feel around lunchtime for a few days). On the scale of 0-100 that the pharmacologist uses, past two weeks have been 60s (while I was around 80-90 at the end of August). Not sure if I'll ask them to bump up my dosage when I go in for my 2 month consultation or not (leaning towards finally bumping it up since I've been at 150mg since my first visit back in early June).
OTOH, the Ambien (10mg) has been very effective at putting me to sleep at night. Downside is that I'm essentially "drunk" for 6-8 hrs after taking the pill (which means I have to go to bed at a reasonable hour, like midnight). Still trying to get a handle on my sleep schedule so that I go to bed at a good time and get a good night's sleep.

Having Given the Cowards a 50-Yard Start
Strange... looks like the killer is either getting ready to start taunting the police verbally (or finally deliver his/their "message")... or someone is about to blab. Still trying to figure out how they managed to leave a phone number (if it was the killer) at the site of the shooting. Actually, that puts an interesting twist on this, that the killer possibly visited the site of the killing beforehand.
Yahoo! News - Police Hunting Sniper Get Message at Crime Scene
...
Montgomery County, Maryland, Police Chief Charles Moose revealed on Sunday that a message had been left at the scene of a shooting on Saturday near a restaurant in Ashland, Virginia and appealed to the person who left it to contact the police.
"To the person who left us a message at the Ponderosa (restaurant) last night, you gave us a telephone number. We do want to talk to you, call us at the number you provided," Moose, the head of the regional investigation, said in a televised appeal.
Moose urged the news media to carry the carefully worded statement "clearly, and carry it often." He declined to elaborate or take questions from reporters gathered for the unscheduled briefing.
The Washington Post reported on Monday that after Moose made his statement, a police spokeswoman said the chief meant what he said and that it should "make sense" to the person who left the message.

EverQuest - Pain and suffering tries to strike YOU, but misses!
I've been attacked by this non-existent mob thrice - not exactly sure why the message shows up, but prevalent theory is that it's related to being DoT'd while at low health. All three instances it looks like the DoT is what killed me.

Jump the Shark
Alright... finally did some web digging (translation - typed in www.jumptheshark.com into the web browser). Where does the phrase come from? "The aforementioned expression refers to the telltale sign of the demise of Happy Days, our favorite example, when Fonzie actually "jumped the shark." The rest is history. " -- The idea being that if you look at a series as a whole, there is an easily identifiable point after which it's all downhill.
Although if you read the comments on the voting page, I'd have to agree that the jumping point came much earlier when the writers lost their way and Fonz became the focus of the series.
Hmm, but looking at a few of the votes - jumping the shark isn't as easily identified as you might think. What turns one person off, may make no difference to another person.
And yes, I think EQ jumped the shark with the release of Luclin, or maybe when they gave CH to druids/shaman...

More sniper news
So, has he slipped up? Reports are trickling in that a shell casing was found in a white truck at Dulles Airport (perhaps rented by the shooter). So the question is... how is he pulling off these attacks? Is it a team of two (or more) killers? Some of the killings seem meticulous, while others seem more impluse driven.
Looking at the pattern so far... there was the initial frenzy of 4-5 shootings within 16-18 hrs, then a lull before a long series of single-killings (no more frenzies). So after blowing off the initial steam, the killer is either working himself back up to the kill point every few days, or he and his partner are egging each other on until one or the other goes and kills again. Maybe this is some sort of sick, bonding, competition. (If so, there will be records kept of the "score".)
Yahoo! News - New Shooting Has Similarities to Sniper Spree To this point, the manhunt has been a 17-day frenzy punctuated by meticulous single-shot attacks and a dearth of promising clues. Earlier last week, detectives were crestfallen at having to charge one of their few promising witnesses with being a fabulist who misled them with a tale about having seen the sniper.
Hmm, new word "Fabulist" - A composer of fables. A teller of tales; a liar. (from Dictionary.com). - Okay, maybe I did know that one, it's just not in common use anymore.

Stupid Spam of the Day
More of the same, attempts to play the social engineering game of making you think that you've forgotten someone. However, since I'm cynical (and I know that I never e-mailed this person LOL)... attached is the WHOIS DNS record for www.moonlightmatch.com and www.daisycut.com - which isn't telling me much. However, moonlightmatch advertises itself as a XXX Adult Personals (translation - they want to you get excited about thinking that you'll be able to see pics of gals who post personals so that you'll pay to contact them).
But wait! In order to get in, you have to sign up for a "Free Age Card" (freeagecard.com)... registered to "Cyberbros, Inc" in California. So, if this age-verification system is free... why does it say under the FAQ, "FreeAgeCard is free for lifetime with the purchase of a membership to FreeAgeCard you get a one-month recurring membership to xxxe.com at the monthly rate of $39.95"
Ah, but this gets better - here's the kickers - "Webmaster’s make $25 from each FreeAgeCard given away. No other website in the world offers a commission like this for just giving away FreeAgeCard's." and "Make $20 for each monthly rebill. You get $20 for every customer that stays on with xxxe.com, if the customer stays on for 6 months you make a total of $125 for that sale ($25 initial sign up and $100 in rebills).". -- So there's the motivation for the spammer to send out as many of these e-mails as possible.
And the always amusing policy - "FreeAgeCard has a NO SPAM POLICY. If for any reason we notice that you are spamming we will cancel your account immediately. Unsolicited emails are illegal."

First thing I hope this is the right email address ...:) You probably don't remember me, but we talked online a while ago. I don't really know what happened, but I guess we both just got really busy or something. I feel really bad because I don't want you to think I was ignoring you or anything.
Maybe I'm being presumptuous by assuming you weren't ignoring me. Anyway, I know we haven't talked in a while but I thought we had the beginnings of a pretty good thing going so I was just wondering if you'd be interested in getting back in touch. Maybe with a few emails first so we can feel each other out again? You probably don't remember what I look like, there are some pics of me at:
http://www.moonlightmatch.com
My User name is laurie243 . I hope you're still interested. I'm gonna feel pretty dumb showing you that website if you blow me off..... but I hope that gives you some confidence that I'm for real. I DEFINITELY don't just hand that out to people. I hope this works out for the best, you were the most compatible guy I met on that site and I feel horrible for letting it slide. Anyway, check out the site and email me if you want to get together. If I'm lucky you don't have definite plans for the weekend and we still have time to arrange something? I hope so. Talk to you soon!
Love ,XX
Laurie

Nightmares
Hmm... why do my nightmares from the last 2 nights involve my parents? Smothering type nightmares too, it's like I'm reliving the heck I went through trying to move out of my folk's place 12 years ago. Greedy, grasping, hanger-on - all terms I'd use to describe the guilt trip involved that they've tried to lay on me in the past. Crappy stuff like remembering a hug from a person that you really didn't want to be hugged by - because it's obvious that they're not hugging you for your sake, but solely for their sake. Anxiety stuff too, like being in a quiet house - sitting on a couch, afraid to show interest in anything for fear that they'll either take it away, or want to come "share in the experience" with you. (That's a poor translation of the nightmare... but fits into the pattern of not wanting them to know anything about my life because they'll interfere.)
Sorry Virginia, hate to break it to you, but home is not where the heart is. It may be where they have to take you in if you go there, but frankly I'd rather become a vagrant first before going back there.
