CPU Temperature
While I'm still not sure that my hardware is to blame for the rash of recent EQ crashes, I got tired of the noisy high-speed fan (~46dBa) that came with the copper heatsink and have reinstalled a different 60mm fan on top. (I used the 60mm fan that came with the AMD aluminum heatsink.) Baseline numbers for the copper+highspeed are 42C at rest, 46C under load (100% CPU utilization). Motherboard temp of 29C or 30C (under load). The ambient air sensor that I have taped to the motherboard between the CPU, north bridge, and the memory modules shows an air temperature of around 44C. All of these baseline numbers are with the case off.
I did get a crash earlier while trying to play SimCity4 - so I shutdown, unplugged and reseated my RAM modules and all of my other cards. At the moment I plan on uninstalling and reinstalling SC4 since I've upgraded to DX9 now. (BTW, uninstalling and reinstalling SC4 worked.)
And to add insult to injury, it looks like the power supply in machine #2 has given way (an old old 230W ATX P/S), so I'll have to upgrade that when I get back from vacation next week.
Oh, and another 210 spams in my bulk e-mail folder....
