TNF Tents

The North Face - TNF also makes tents, but there aren't many that I like:

Roadrunner 2, 6 lb 6 oz
- 2 doors, 2 vestibules (9+9 sq ft)
- 35 sq ft inside

Slickrock, 4 lb 9 oz
- 2 doors, half-fly, 33 sq ft
- interesting design on the fly, but it doesn't cover the entire tent

Kelty Tents

Kelty Tents - Here's a list of the tents from Kelty that I like (based solely on specs / promo materials). These are all 2-person, 3-season tents unless noted otherwise:

Trail Dome 2 Soft Top, 5 lb 6 oz
- 30 sq ft, no vestibule, single door
- this is the cheapest of the 2-person tents (IIRC)

Zen Soft Top, 5 lb 12 oz
- smallest of the bunch, 30 sq ft + 6 sq ft vestibule, single door

Tao 2 Soft Top, 6 lb 3 oz
- 30 sq ft + 10 sq ft vestibule
- box shape (2 arches from opposite corners)

Riverbend 2 Soft Top, 6 lb 7 oz
- 34 sq ft + 8 sq ft vestibule
- 2 pole freestanding design, makes the door seem smaller though

Jetstream Convertible Soft Top, 6 lb 13 oz
- 37 sq ft + dual 12 sq ft vestibules
- 2 doors, there's an optional hard-top fly for winter

Vortex 2 Soft Top, 6 lb 15 oz
- heavy, bumping up against 7 lbs, but has 2 doors and 2 vestibules
- 37 sq ft + dual 12 sq ft vestibules
- similar design to the Jetstream

3-Season Tents

Just some tents that I'm interested in (mostly 2 person, 3 season). Currently, I don't have one, but would like to get back into backpacking 2-3 day trips - so weight is an issue. Plus, I think my next trip is going to involve staying at campgrounds instead of hotels, so I'm looking for tents that are easy to setup / take-down daily - including easy setup by a single person.

The North Face Slickrock Ultralight Tent 2-Person 3-Season - $235, 4lb 6oz (packed wt)
- might be a bit short (I'm 6'-1" and might make me sleep diagonally.

Kelty Zen Tent 2-Person 3-Season - $150, 5 lb 9 oz or 2.5 kilos (packed wt)
- I've seen 2 good reviews from end-users, supposedly held up well in wet weather.

Kelty Vortex 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season - $240, 6 lb 13 oz or 3.1 kilos
- bit heavy, but very roomy with dual entrances and dual vestibules
- single-person setup, some sites say 4 lb 12 oz (which is probably sans fly)

Sierra Designs Clip Flashlight CD Tent 2-Person 3-Season, $170, 4lb 5oz
- supposedly pretty tough little tent,

Kelty Riverbend 2 Tent, $200, 6 lb 7 oz

Longhairs

Here's a good article about being a longhair - it covers pretty much the entire range of issues from care to social impact. I also found out that average growth is more like 1/2" per month, so it's going to take another 8-12 months go get to the ponytail stage. See also the article "How to Grow Your Hair Out" - I'm in the "awkward hair stage".
