MWI*BPRIVACY PLUS Fraud

Bleh, found yet another fraudulent charge on my credit card while reviewing my accounts for taxes. Worse, they got me once in 2003 and once in 2002 while I was sick. In May 2002, they showed up as MWI*PRIVACY PLUS and tagged the card for $79.95, that was right about the time I was really sick and barely functioning, much less paying attention to what charges landed on my credit card. Last March of 2003, they showed up again as MWI*PRIVACY PLUS and tagged the card for $139.95. (Interesting that the amount almost doubled, and the billing cycle moved up two months!)

This year, they showed up back in Feb 2004 as MWI*PREFERRED MBR S&H for $1.95, which was refunded 2 days later by MWI*PREF'D S&H REFUND. Apparently checking that the card was still good? And then at the end of March 2004, they socked the card as MWI*BPRIVACY PLUS for $159.95 with a contact phone of 888-408-4492. A google search shows tons of hits indicating that this fraud has been going on quite a while. Interestingly, my bank gave me zero run around getting the charge revoked. Guess they're a known problem?

Bugs me because I also got taken for $175 or so about a year ago by another fraud outfit out in the midwest who stole a dentist's merchant account, ran up charges, and then covered their tracks. Unfortunately for me, by the time I figure out it wasn't a valid charge, it was too late to get it taken off. Name on the charge was #Prosynergy Corporatio SE, and there's an MSN article about it.
