TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress Encoding Times
Still trying to come up with my preferred encoding filters for TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress. I used to use VirtualDub to do my filtering, but since I switched over to capturing via DV files, I now just use the filters in TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress.
Here's the current filter that I use. It's not quite as clean as I like, but it does clean up some of the minor noise that you get from a S-VHS recording. It was a bit of a trade-off between quality/speed.
Crop
top 4, bottom 4, black mask turned on for top/bottom
Noise Reduction
Spatial NR Setting - intensity 20, noise detection area Small (fastest)
Temporal NR Setting - intensity 20, range Short (fastest)
Audio Correction
Volume Change - Audio Normalization to 90% level
MPEG2 Encoding
VBR, 10bit DC, Motion Search Precision of High, 4000kbits/sec
Encoding times are listed below for the above settings. These are done on an Opteron 246 dual-CPU system with 1GB of PC3200 ECC (2x512 DDR).
(clip time - encode time - ratio)
13:04 - 47 min - 3.6x
12:00 - 40 min - 3.3x
12:54 - 49 min - 3.8x
18:14 - 65 min - 3.6x
17:02 - 59 min - 3.5xLabels: 2005, VideoEncoding
