DVD bitrates

So I upgraded to DVD Author 1.6 and now my old bitrates for PVR recordings are off again. Unlike v1.5, the new 1.6 version doesn't seem to be repacking the MPEG2 frames. So a letterbox 4:3 source material doesn't pack down like it did before. I've been rendering out to a temporary folder and using DVDShrink to convert from a 4.9GB source back down to a 4.3GB source (small enough to fit on a 4.35GB DVD).

At the moment, I've changed the PVR to record at 6250kbits/sec VBR with 384kbits/sec MP2 audio. That seems to give me the size that I'm looking for in order to put 88 minutes of footage onto a single disc (which is a pair of 1-hour TV shows, minus commercials).
